Our color palettes are comprised of a base color and extended palette. The extended palette includes the additional tints and shades generated from the base color.

Colors are named as ‘colorXX’ (for ex. tan100)
The color label represents the base color, while the ‘XX’ number represents different shades.

Tint = The addition of white to the base color
Shade = The addition of black to the base color


Here’s how the value of the extended palette is determined:
Base color: 100
Shades darker than base color: >100
Tints lighter than base color: <100 < p>

What is the minimum contrast requirement?

1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, except for the following: (Level AA)
Large Text: Large-scale text and images of large-scale text have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1;
Incidental: Text or images of text that are part of an inactive user interface component, that are pure decoration, that are not visible to anyone, or that are part of a picture that contains significant other visual content, have no contrast requirement.
Logotypes: Text that is part of a logo or brand name has no minimum contrast requirement.

In order to meet W3C’s minimum AA rating, the background to text contrast ratio should be at least 4.5:1. Therefore, all styles and components need to meet this contrast ratio of color combinations.

Using Stark’s accessibility plugin we are able to determine passing text color contract stanards:
Normal text = Passing color results are accurate only if your font is at least 16px with regular weight or heavier
Large text = Passing color results are accurate only if your font is at least 18.66px with bold weight or 24px at regular weight or heavier
